All in-store birthday parties are run by our dedicated party staff, and take place in our beautiful event space - separated from the main store. All parties are subject to availability, so please contact The Reading Bug at 650-591-0100 or email for pricing, additional information and availability.

Baby Bugs Package:

This package is great for children ages 1 and 2.

• Enjoy a 30-minute, age-appropriate story time with one of our experienced Storytellers built around the theme of your choice.
• Enjoy our beautiful multi-purpose room for 2 hours, including table & chairs for eating or activities.
• Receive a 15% discount on book-themed party favors if you order through us.

Our party hostess will be available to help with setup and cleanup but this party package does not include staff supervision.  You may arrive 30 minutes before the party for setup and stay 30 minutes after party for clean up.  This party package is not recommended for drop-off parties.  Please bring your own cake or cupcakes and party supplies.
 

Reading Bugs Package:

This is a great party for kids ages 3+.   Invite up to 14 friends and sit back and relax! 
 
Enjoy all the Baby Bug birthday party amenities plus:

• Approximately 2 hours of theme-related, activities and games led by one of our experienced hostesses.
• Story time based on your theme, theme related temporary tattoo or sticker, and at least one theme-related craft to take home.
• Decorations, tableware, and apple juice or pink lemonade for all participating guests.
• Your hostess will setup, serve cake and clean up for you for a stress-free party.
• Please bring your own cake or cupcakes.
• One paperback book as a party favor for each participating guest, wrapped in our Reading Bug paper.

Build-Your-Own-Bugs Package:

In addition to receiving all the great perks of The Reading Bugs package, you can opt to have one of our experienced hostesses plan a party specifically for your child!   Choose a favorite book or topic and we will plan the perfect party based on your child’s likes and dislikes.  Leave all the details to us and just show up for your magical event.  We’ll make sure your child’s big day is a one-of-a-kind Reading Bug event!

Party Add-Ons

• Have one of the owners of the Reading Bug, lead your story time  (subject to availability)
• Face Painting for each participating guest
• Nail Salon for each participating guest
• Personalized, theme related invitations to email or print for guests.

The Fine Details:

• All prices are based on 14 participating guests.  Extra charges will apply to parties larger than 14 guests.
• Participating guests in The Reading Bug and Build Your Own Bug parties’ activities must be 3 years or older.
• Parties do not include cake or cupcakes, but the hostesses will serve for the Reading Bugs Package and the Build-Your-Own-Bugs packages.
• We do not provide any food.  You may bring food other than cake or cupcakes.  We appreciate you letting us know in advance if you plan to have food.  No alcohol is permitted.
• Star Wars and Harry Potter parties are only available as Build Your Own Bug parties.
• All parties subject to availability.

Curious George (Recommended for ages 2-5)
What child doesn't love this classic character? Read about how this famous monkey met the Man in the Yellow Hat, make your own Curious George mask, play games like "Captain on Deck" and "Monkey in the Middle" and participate in some of the fun George finds on his many adventures! Choose your favorite Curious George story to give out for party favors!

The Animal Boogie (Recommended for ages 2-5)
Perfect for both boys and girls! Make a lion mask and parade around the store scaring the grown-ups. Dance and sing like the animals we'll read about...and choose an animal-themed book to give out as a party favor such as the "Animal Boogie Activity Book!"

Ladybug Girl and/or Bumblebee Boy (Recommended for ages 3+)
At this party, we will listen to buggy stories, make bugs to take home, and have adventures through the store-- just like Ladybug Girl and her friend Bumblee Boy! Sing songs and hide under a ladybug shell, collect stickers of bugs for answering insect and Ladybug Girl trivia!

Pinkalicious (Recommended for ages 3-6)
Have a "Pink-errific" time with stories all about the color pink including the best-seller, “Pinkalicious”! Celebrate your birthday with Pinkalicious and Goldy! Decorate your own Pinkalicious princess hat, parade down The Reading Bug path to find the Wandering Wizard, play “Pin the Horn on the Unicorn” and much more! Each guest brings a home Pinkalicious paperback party favor.

Fancy Nancy (Recommended for ages 3-6)
Have a Fancy tea party with Nancy! In between reading Nancy's books on being fancy, dress up and play “Follow the Hostess”, sip on "Jus du Pomme" (which is fancy for apple juice!), make your own exquisite tiara and take a lesson on how to be fancy, like Nancy!

American Girl (Recommended for ages 6+)
Join your favorite American Girls for a party celebrating birthdays, friendship and your inner star!  We can tailor the theme to your child’s favorite American girl or select the Girl of the Year.  We’ll make friendship bracelets, have a spa station and learn some great girl songs.   And of course, your dolls are invited too!

Only Available on Build-Your-Own-Bug Parties:

Star Wars: The Strange Case of the Origami Yoda (ages 6+)
Does your child LOVE Star wars? What about Tom Angleberger's awesome books? At this party we will have an origami lesson (of course!) as well as learn to make other cool Star Wars crafts.   (Don't forget about Darth Paper!)  We will also go pod racing on Tatooine and decode one of Yoda's riddles! No weapons please; Reading Bugs are a friendly people.

Harry Potter (Recommended for ages 7-12)
Transport yourself to Hogwarts and take classes just like Harry, Hermione and Ron right here at the The Reading Bug! In potions class we'll make fun sticky messes that will boggle your mind; in Care of Magical Creatures, you'll go on a scavenger hunt for weird and wacky animals. In between we'll make our own wands and try Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans-- don't get stuck with a booger flavored one!
