Imaginatively designed to look like an enchanted forest complete with

Our goal is to create a valuable community resource where families can come to linger, browse, relax, read, laugh, play, sing, talk, and listen.
The Reading Bug also offers an extensive calendar of special events to keep parents and kids busy nearly every day. Storytimes, sing-alongs, author signings, discussion groups and craft days are just a few of the many activities you can find at "The Bug." The store also provides a small event space to host grown-up or children's book clubs, baby showers, book-themed birthday parties, and other private events!
One of The Reading Bug’s core missions is to create strong ties with families on the Peninsula and beyond. With an emphasis on young families, The Reading Bug provides an extensive selection of parenting and pregnancy books, as well as frequent guest speakers on these subjects.
The decision to open a children’s bookstore was an endeavor that involved the entire Savage family - and you can find most of them in the store throughout the week. Diane Savage has been an avid reader all her life, and attributes much of her happiness and success in life to reading. When her grandchild Chloe was born, she realized that she wanted to create a place where families could gather to read, play and socialize. What better place than a great children's bookstore? What better location than San Carlos?
Lauren Savage (daughter-in-law to Diane and mom to baby Chloe) moved to the Bay Area with her husband 2 years ago and fell in love with San Carlos. When the opportunity to open The Reading Bug arose, she jumped at the chance to help create a nurturing and magical environment for her new baby daughter and a place for all the new Moms and Dads to help educate and have fun with their young ones.
Thank you for your help in supporting local, independent businesses! We'll see you in the store!
